This analogue Sound Level Meter is simple, light and easy to use. It measures sound levels in dB
(Decibels)
Measures sound levels in dB on a large clear analogue display. This low cost sound meter (PTS 101) is light and simple to use even for novices. If you want to test or make noise measurements for general use then the PTS101 is for you.
Ideal for education in schools, colleges, small businesses and shops. The analogue meter can check sound level in large areas, loud or attenuated, treble or bass, intermittent or continuous. The yellow rotary switch selects one of the 7 dB ( decibel ) ranges and also selects the battery test. The meter has an in built calibration function and has test positions for sound measurements with both A and C frequency weightings. Use "A" for human ear bias (500 - 10000Hz) or "C" for full frequency range (32 - 10000Hz) .
This analogue sound meter has a switch to select fast or slow response making peak and average readings easier to assess.
The UK noise at work regulations, 1990, require employers to provide suitable ear protection when noise levels can rise between 85db and 90dB. If noise levels rise above 90dB then ear protection must be supplied and worn. High noise levels can cause irreversible damage to the tiny sensory hairs in the ear over a period of time. Noise is measured in decibels and an increase of 3 decibels doubles the noise level! The SL101 measuring range is 50 to 126 dB.
